Weak verbs are forms of the verb βbeβ β is, am, are, was, were, being, been. They are not grammatically wrong. But when you overuse them, your writing becomes flat and lifeless. Strong action verbs do the same job in fewer words β and with more energy.

How to spot the weak verb trap
Look for this pattern in your writing:

Whenever you see this pattern, ask: is there an action verb that says the same thing?
