From the Diary of Anne Frank โ Grammar Exercises
Two grammar exercises based on real NCERT sentences from this chapter. Practise the editing and gap-filling formats tested in CBSE Section B.
Exercise 1Editing / Error Correction
The sentence below has one grammatical error. Find the incorrect word and write the correction.
Show Answer & Explanation
'Like' is used for comparison between nouns (like + noun/pronoun): 'someone like me' = someone similar to me. 'As' is used before a clause (as + subject + verb): 'She spoke as I had expected.' Here, 'me' is a pronoun with no verb following it, so 'like' is required. 'As me' is always wrong in this position.
Exercise 2Gap Filling
Choose the option that best fills the blank in the sentence below.
Show Answer & Explanation
Anne Frank named her diary 'Kitty' โ she treated it as a real friend she could confide in. This is one of the most well-known details of the chapter and appears in extract-based questions every few years. Anne wanted a 'real friend' and created one by naming her diary.
