Amanda โ Grammar Exercises
Two grammar exercises based on real NCERT sentences from this chapter. Practise the editing and gap-filling formats tested in CBSE Section B.
Exercise 1Editing / Error Correction
The sentence below has one grammatical error. Find the incorrect word and write the correction.
Show Answer & Explanation
In imperatives (commands/instructions), always use the base form of the verb โ never add '-s', '-ed', or '-ing'. 'Don't hunch' (base form) is the correct imperative. 'Hunches' is the third-person singular present form, used only in statements: 'She hunches her shoulders.' In a command ('Don't ___'), only the base form is used.
Exercise 2Gap Filling
Choose the option that best fills the blank in the sentence below.
Show Answer & Explanation
Amanda imagines herself as a 'mermaid' in one of her daydream stanzas. She pictures herself drifting in the sea โ a world without instructions and restrictions. The mermaid represents freedom, solitude, and escape from the nagging voice of her mother. This is one of the three fantasy worlds Amanda imagines (mermaid, orphan, Rapunzel).
