Two grammar exercises based on real NCERT sentences from this chapter. Practise the editing and gap-filling formats tested in CBSE Section B.
Exercise 1Editing / Error Correction
The sentence below has one grammatical error. Find the incorrect word and write the correction.
Show Answer & Explanation
'Sit' is the present tense form. The story is narrated in the past tense throughout. The correct past tense of 'sit' is 'sat' (irregular verb: sit โ sat โ sat). 'Sit' here is a tense error โ the most common type tested in the editing section.
Exercise 2Gap Filling
Choose the option that best fills the blank in the sentence below.
Show Answer & Explanation
'Dotted with' means scattered with small patches โ exactly how flowers appear among crops. 'Covered' would mean fully hidden, 'filled' and 'surrounded' don't fit the scattered pattern of flowers among corn. The NCERT text uses 'dotted' to create a specific visual image of a field with sparse flowers spread across it.
